A Box full of Books

Last week when a supporter on the BarackObama.com blog said he would donate ten copies of The Audacity of Hope to The Obama Book Project, I was psyched! But when I got home today and there indeed was a package that had arrived with those ten books, I was incredulous!

You can't get to know someone through a 450 word article. Or a 30 second re-cap of a debate on cable news. Even as a supporter, with all my enthusiasm, I am convinced that I can't do as good a job as Barack Obama can in his own words, in his two books.

Great minds think alike! Thanks Phil! And to Obama supporters everywhere - lend your copy to a friend. Buy used copies on Amazon for under $6 and give them away by leaving them at coffeshops for anyone to read.

Obama Can, Obama Will

Audacity: Raising $25 million dollars during Q1 as a "neophite", just $1 million short of Hillary's $26 million.

Audacity: Raising $23.5 million dollars that can be used during the primary, $3.5 million more than Hillary's estimated $20 million primary dollars.

Audacity: 100,000 contributors, double Hillary's 50,000.

Yes we will! Help to bring in more Obama supporters and donors by buying a copy of The Audacity of Hope and giving it to a friend, or just leave it in a coffeeshop for anyone to read.

Project Update: 362 visitors to theobamabookproject.com and 22 Guestbook entries.

Coffeeshop Drop-offs

Thanks to Patti from Seattle for a great suggestion. If all of your friends have already heard about Barack Obama, and ready the book you gave them or lent them, then why not place a copy in a coffeeshop with a sticker on the front that says "Steal this book! Read it, and then pass it on" with the URL www.theobamabookproject.com on the inside and your signature.

Give the book to people you don't even know!

According to the website counter we have now had over 200 visitors. Many Obama supporters had already thought about doing something similar but didn't have a name for it. Others gave out copies to friends and relatives as Christmas presents.

Movement

The blogs on barackobama.com have brought two firsts to the project.

1) First person to have essentially the same idea: Scarlett
2) First person to commit to joining the project: Candace

Also, the counter and guestbook are now working. I'll use this blog for updates on the project.

The Project Begins

A few months ago I had an idea. I covered an entire page of newspaper with my notes while I waited for my food to be served at a Thai restaurant here in Austin. Soon afterwards I put up a website TheObamaBookProject.com and purchased 4 additional copies of "The Audacity of Hope" by Barack Obama. Within a month I had passed them on - one in San Francisco, and three here in Austin.

So what is the Project about? Spreading the word about Senator Barack Obama by getting copies of his own words in people's hands. You write your name and TheObamaBookProject.com somewhere inside the cover of a copy of "Audacity of Hope" and you give it to someone one one condition - when they are done reading it, they must do the same. Feel free to buy numerous copies and start your own.
